Steven F. Orpurt, Ph.D.
Professor Orpurt earned his MBA and Ph.D. at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His dissertation garnered the 2004 American Accounting Association International Section dissertation of the year award.
Prof Orpurt lived in Singapore from 2004 to 2010, working as Assistant Professor at Singapore Management University first when it was temporarily located near the botanical gardens and then at the newly built downtown campus. His introduction to Singapore started years earlier when working with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Asia Executive MBA program, located in the National Monument House of Tan Yeok Nee, built-in 1882 (Penang Road). He and his wife keep up with their many friends and acquaintances in Singapore and throughout the region.
At Arizona State University, he teaches corporate governance, ethics, and sustainability reporting and was previously the Associate Director of the School of Accountancy. In addition to his position at Singapore Management University, he has held visiting professorships at The University of Chicago and Purdue University and taught courses at Boston University, INSEAD, Northwestern Kellogg School of Management. He has won numerous teaching awards at different universities.
His recent research focuses on the Statement of Cash Flows with top-tier publications and presentations to the International Accounting Standards Board.
Before his academic career, he was a portfolio manager (Franklin Templeton). As a litigation consultant, he led expert testimony efforts on behalf of JPMorgan Chase & Co. regarding their Enron class action lawsuit defense.
